What is young adult live in care?

Live-in care for young adults is for any person aged 18 to 65 who needs support in their daily lives, perhaps due to a disability or complex needs. Yes – the age group for young adult live in care goes all the way up to 65.

The care itself involves a professional carer living with the young adult in their own home, providing 24/7 support with whatever is needed, including help with household tasks, emotional support, and meal preparation. The care is built entirely around the individual’s needs, goals, and routines. It’s not a standard package, but instead a type of live in care for young people that focuses on them as individuals. Part of what that care package includes is based on the type of condition the person has, whether that’s cerebral palsy, a mental health disorder, a brain injury, or a learning disability.

There is a big difference between at-home young adult care and residential care. On one hand, residential care requires uprooting the young adult’s entire life and moving them into a care facility to receive the support they need. With at-home care, the client can stay in their own home, preserving their independence and enjoying the comforts they have grown to love over the years. What we have found is that individuals tend to thrive better when they are close to their home, family, and pets!

Private live-in carers — specialist support at home

When you choose Consultus Care, you choose well-trained, compassionate, and dedicated carers who adapt to each individual’s needs. Each is an established professional, trained by the Skills for Care Centre of Excellence, an award-winning training centre that truly makes our carers stand out from the crowd.

The matching process for live-in care is extremely thorough – we take it seriously, as it’s important to assign the most appropriate carer to the client so that all needs are well supported. When matching a carer, we take into account the young adult in your life’s needs, personality, goals, and preferences. When all of this is considered, there’s a greater chance of establishing a strong relationship.

What makes private live-in carers a good option for many is the continuity of care. When your loved one is assigned one of our carers, they stick with them, which gives them the opportunity to build genuine relationships over time. This is vastly different from agency-based or rotating care. It means that the carer will come to understand your loved one’s personality, specific needs, and routine, so they’ll know exactly how to help you on any given day.

When you choose our services, you can pick from a variety of service options to suit your loved one’s needs, too. We have both managed care and introductory service options. So, you can start with an introductory service to begin with, to see if the matched carer is right for your mum, dad, or family member. We always do everything we can to ensure the absolute comfort of our clients.

To discuss how we match a carer to your loved one’s specific needs, call us on 01732 496715.

Young adults live in care services — what we provide

Our young adults live in care services are able to offer support for a wide range of conditions, including the following. If you don’t see a condition that you or a loved one is living with, contact our team to see what other kinds of young adult live in care options we can offer.

Cerebral palsy care at home

Cerebral palsy refers to a group of neurological conditions that directly affect movement, muscle control, and balance. As such, many young adults living with cerebral palsy require ongoing support to live better. A dedicated live-in carer will assist primarily with daily mobility tasks, removing the stress of having to move around or manage the household alone.

Brain and spinal injury care

Recovering from a brain or spinal injury is extremely demanding and comes with symptoms like paralysis, loss of sensation, and cognitive changes. Our care services offer dedicated live-in care for round-the-clock physical assistance and medical management. This helps with the rehabilitation and recovery process and provides much-needed support with handling daily tasks and routines, for as long as you need it.

How do you ease the pain of rheumatoid arthritis?

Easing the pain of rheumatoid arthritis involves a combination of practical and lifestyle support. Our live-in carers can assist with heat or cold therapy, help with gentle movement and prescribed exercises, support medication routines, and reduce the physical strain of daily tasks that aggravate painful joints. Over time, our care team will become accustomed to what does and doesn’t work for you, so how we manage your pain will be highly personalised.

How do you treat an RA flare-up?

Our live-in care team will always prioritise rest and pain management, providing critical support at these unpleasant times. They will take over daily tasks entirely, assist with medication, and encourage rest. The care is immediate and personal, providing relief that visiting carers cannot.

Why choose live-in arthritis care over a residential care home?

For many families, arthritis home care provides a more familiar, safe, and comfortable environment. These are the main reasons why so many find it the smarter choice for all the family.

  • Familiarity: With live-in arthritis care, you can stay in familiar surroundings – your actual home. This provides a great deal of comfort and means you can continue with activities you love, such as tending to your garden or spending time with your pets.

  • One-to-one care: When you choose arthritis home care, you receive one-on-one support, meaning the nurse can adapt to your specific needs. You’ll have their full attention, no matter the time of day.

  • Cost: Many people don’t consider live-in care because of cost fears, but the reality is that the cost live-in care for arthritis is actually comparable to the cost of residential home care. For couples, it can even be more cost-effective.

  • The home stays in the family: Leaving behind a home for residential care can be tough, as it might involve needing to sell the property. With live-in care, you not only get to keep living in that house, but you also ensure that it stays in the family. For many, this is incredibly important.

  • Continuity: With live in care, we have a small rota that ensures you receive the same nurses over and over again. As such, you can make meaningful connections with them. Plus, they will get to know you and your needs on a more meaningful level, leading to true continuity of care.
