Exceptional Live-in Care for couples

What is Live-in Care for couples?

It can be worrying for all the family when you realise that one or both of you require more support with daily life. Maybe one of you is living with a condition like dementia, and the other is finding it difficult to provide the support needed. Perhaps you both require different levels of care to enable you to live well in your own home. We know that one of the most common concerns for couples is they may be separated if they move into a residential care setting.

In these situations, live-in care is proving to be the far preferred alternative to residential care, as you can avoid the unwanted disruption that moving out of a cherished family home often brings.

At Consultus, our live-in care for couples offers you, your spouse or partner, personal, dedicated care at home. One of our compassionate carers will offer continuous support and companionship whenever you need it, focusing on enhancing your quality of life and supporting you both in all aspects of your life. This may include household tasks, supporting your mobility, providing discreet personal care, managing medications, joining you on outings, running errands, or ensuring you remain active in your community.

Benefits of Live-in Care for couples

When it comes to ageing together, live-in care offers couples the opportunity to continue sharing their lives without the disruption of moving into a residential care or nursing home. There are many other benefits to choosing live-in care:

  • Stay together in familiar surroundings: There is no need to leave the much-loved home you have built together. Live-in care allows you to remain in the place you love, surrounded by cherished memories in familiar surroundings.
  • Personalised care: Care is tailored to meet the specific needs of each of you, ensuring that you both receive personalised support and attention. This flexible approach is hard to achieve in a residential care setting.
  • Enriched quality of life: Remaining together in a familiar environment can contribute to better emotional health, reduce feelings of loneliness and worry that can come from major life changes like moving home.
  • Cost-effective alternative to a care home: Live-in care for couples is a more affordable option when compared to separate rooms in a residential care home, offering value without compromising on quality. Very few care homes have double rooms where you can live together.
  • Flexible care plans: As your needs evolve, your care plan can be adjusted accordingly, ensuring you always receive the right level of support.

Live-in care empowers couples to maintain their independence and lifestyle. With the right support, you can carry on with your daily routines, hobbies, and social activities, all while having the peace of mind that comes from having dedicated care and support.

Types of Live-in Care for couples

At Consultus Care and Nursing we offer two types of live in care services; managed care and introductory care. Here we explain the difference:

Fully Managed Live-in Care – we handle everything

Our fully managed live-in care service, regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England, ensures the highest standards of care. We employ, insure, and manage carers directly, providing comprehensive support around-the-clock.

A local Care Consultant will assess your needs and create a personalised care plan, regularly reviewed to adapt to any changes. We offer on-going support to both clients and carers, with our in-house team available 24/7.

Our carers complete award-winning training, endorsed by Skills for Care. Our comprehensive training covers mandatory modules, but also bespoke courses in specialist conditions, like dementia and palliative care. We ensure our carers are skilled and equipped to provide the care our clients should expect.

This service is ideal for families unable to oversee their loved one's care, offering peace of mind with fully managed, round-the-clock support.

Introductory Live-in Care – we recruit a carer for you

Our introductory live-in care service connects you with a self-employed carer. While we rigorously screen and match carers to your needs, they work independently of us. You will manage and pay the carer directly.

This service requires a local family member or representative to oversee the care arrangement, especially in emergencies. It is unsuitable if the representative lives more than an hour away or if medication administration is needed.

Unlike many competitors, we provide our carers with induction and on-going training. We only recommend this service when families are able to oversee the carer independently, and not for those with complex health concerns.

Why Choose Consultus Care and Nursing?

Choice and control

Our live-in care services offer families choice and flexibility.  We know that every family’s situation is different, so once we match you with a perfect carer, you can either manage the care arrangement yourself, or we can manage it for you.

Quality care for life

From respite care, through to on-going live-in care to nursing care at home, choosing Consultus means you do not need to move out of your home to get the care you need.  We know continuity of care offers families much-needed peace of mind.

Established and trusted

Since 1962 we have been trusted by families to provide the highest standards of care with a reputation built on recommendation. We continue to be a family-owned and managed business, which means our focus is on the quality of our service, not on meeting investors’ expectations.

Accredited training

Unlike other care agencies, all our carers across all our services receive our market-leading training, accredited by Skills for Care for its excellence. This means carers are skilled and experienced to deliver the quality care our clients should expect.

Clinical oversight

Our live-in care service is overseen by our qualified registered nurses, who support our teams to ensure we can effectively help those living with complex conditions to live well at home.

Costs of Live-in Care for couples

For couples, live-in care offers a cost-effective way to receive the support you both need.  A care home will typically charge a weekly fee for caring for each individual based on their needs.  In addition there will be a weekly fee for accommodation for two bedrooms.  This means live-in care for couples is a far more attractive and affordable option when compared to a care home.

The weekly cost of your live-in care will depend on the level of care and support you each need. If both your care needs can be met by one live-in carer, the cost of live-in care for couples is very attractive, with only a nominal fee being added to one weekly cost of care.

If you wish to receive our managed live in care service, a Care Consultant local to you will conduct a thorough assessment of your individual needs, but also how you like to live as a couple.  We would then be able to confirm the exact cost of care for you both.

What our clients say...

''

"We have been using Consultus for over 4 months and, based on our experience so far, we can highly recommend them. We required 24 hour live-in care for our 87 year old aunt, who had recently been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and our 93 year old uncle, for whom our aunt had previously been primary carer. Following negative experiences elsewhere, we were at the end of our tether but fortunately a friend of the family recommended Consultus and we are so pleased they did. Gemma Bigginton, the Consultus care manager who has been excellent, established a great rapport with our aunt and uncle from the start. Understanding the urgency of our situation, she organised a care package to start within a few days. All the carers so far have been amazing, kind and capable. The house is spotless and organised, all have embraced our aunt & uncle’s vegetarian diet and have provided them with nutritious meals. They have dealt with GP appointments, medication, our aunt’s NHS carers, district nurses, etc. Consultus also provides a daily email update, which we find very reassuring."

Peter, July 2024

We are so grateful to Consultus for the consistently outstanding care they are providing to my father. Fiona Moore who manages the relationship with us and the team of carers at Consultus is proactive, supportive, sensitive and phenomenal at finding carers who are the right fit for Dad. The carers are excellent and many have nursing backgrounds which has been a big help. We cannot thank Consultus enough for all they are doing to support Dad and us as a family. Thank you!

Camilla, August 2024

Having Consultus as part of Dad's support network over the past months has been a huge blessing. The carers you introduced to us have all been wonderful, warm, knowledgeable people who promoted Dad's independence, maintained his dignity and encouraged his interests.
