Live-in overnight care at home
Exceptional overnight care at home for over 60 years
Overnight care
Night-time can be one of the most worrying times of day, both for people who need care and for their families. Whether it’s difficulty moving in and out of bed, needing the reassurance of someone close by, or the risks that conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s can bring after dark, many families find they cannot relax at night.
At Consultus Care & Nursing, we’ve been providing trusted, compassionate care in people’s homes since 1962. For over 60 years, families have turned to us for reassurance, professionalism and warmth. From our beginnings as a family-run business, we’ve built a reputation for delivering safe, high-quality care that keeps people in the place they love most.
Our overnight care at home service ensures that you or your loved one is safe, supported and comfortable throughout the night. Whether it’s occasional reassurance or constant supervision, our experienced carers are here to bring peace of mind.
What is overnight care?
Overnight home care means having a professional carer in the home during night-time hours, usually between 9pm and 7am, to provide support, a helping hand, or overnight nursing care based on the individual’s needs. Loved ones with complex conditions will often have care needs that continue into the night. These needs can be met by overnight home care, ensuring your loved one can continue living safely in the familiarity of their own home.
For families, overnight care provides unrivaled peace of mind, knowing their loved one is safe throughout the night.

Who is overnight care suitable for?
Overnight care at home offers comfort and reassurance to anyone whose nights are unsettled or restless. For older people, or those living with dementia, darkness can be particularly challenging and increase the risk of confusion, falls or injury. With an overnight carer, your loved one would never be alone. Gentle supervision and reactive support mean they remain safe at home.
Overnight care may be suitable for people who:
Wake frequently during the night and need assistance
Feel anxious or unsafe when left alone
Are recovering following hospital discharge
Live with conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis that can affect sleep patterns
Experience pain, confusion or disorientation during the night
Need help with continence care or taking medication through the night-time hours
The two types of overnight care
There are two options available for overnight care. Your overnight carer can either stay awake throughout the night to be on hand at all times, or your overnight carer can sleep whilst you sleep, and be on call should you require assistance.
Sleeping night (sleep-in) care
With sleeping night care, a carer will stay in the home overnight and be on hand should support be required. They will sleep at the same time as you, but would be ready to respond to:
Help with incontinence
Occasional repositions for comfort or pressure relief
Providing water or medications
Reassurance and companionship if the person wakes feeling unsettled
This option is best suited to individuals who sleep relatively well but may need occasional assistance or the reassurance of having somebody nearby. Families often find that even knowing someone is present brings enormous peace of mind.
Waking night care
With waking night care, a carer will visit the home in the evenings, remaining awake throughout the night to provide support and assistance where required. This service is suitable when a person wakes frequently, there is risk of falls or wandering during the night, medication must be administered throughout the night, they must be repositioned regularly due to injury, or frequent disorientation.
Our care is always personalised to your needs, meaning we can reevaluate your overnight care needs on a regular basis, or if there has been a change in circumstances. Whatever your situation, our Care Professionals are on hand to ensure you live well at home, your way.

What support can you receive from overnight home care?
Overnight live-in care is tailored to provide exactly the right level of support through the night, whenever it’s needed. For some, this may be short-term following hospital discharge, or to cover a family carer's break. For others, especially those living alone, overnight care can be an ongoing requirement to ensure safety and comfort through the night.
Rest easier with overnight care
Just as many people benefit from extra support during the day, support at night can be equally important. At Consultus Care, we understand that nights bring their own challenges, from mobility difficulties to confusion and discomfort. Our dedicated carers are there to make sure you or your loved one feels safe and secure until the morning.
We provide overnight care to the elderly and those living with health conditions that make routine tasks more difficult, including:

How can you benefit from overnight care
Overnight care can bring many benefits to an individual’s life, as well as their family. It allows for an individual to receive the care and support they need, while remaining in the comforting environment of their own home.
With a carer residing in your home overnight, you’ll always have someone by your side ready to help.
Immediate help reduces the risk of falls and wandering at night.
The reassurance of having someone there can lead to a more restful sleep
You can remain in the familiarity of your home in your own bed, rather than moving into residential care.
Ensuring that your loved one is being cared for even through the night can bring much peace of mind for the family
Overnight care arrangements can be flexible, whether for short-term respite or for long-term support.
How we provide overnight care at home
At Consultus Care and Nursing, we offer two distinct live-in care services for those requiring overnight care. We are committed to ensuring our clients receive the right level of care that meets their needs, whilst providing choice as to how their care arrangement is managed.
Managed live-in care
Our fully managed live-in care service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England, which results in regular inspections to ensure the care we provide is of the highest standard. We fully manage the service, which means carers are supervised, managed and monitored by us when working in a client’s home.
Why choose Consultus Care and Nursing?
One of the longest-established and most trusted providers
Founded in 1962, we have always been innovators in live-in care and live-in nursing. With over 60 years’ experience, we are one of the country’s longest-established, most highly recommended and experienced providers.
Unrivalled choice and control over your care
We understand that every person’s needs are different and every family’s situation is unique. With our choice of fully managed live-in care and nursing, and our introductory service, we offer more flexibility and personalisation than any other provider.
Highly trained nurses and carers
We are nationally recognised for the quality of our nurses and carers. With market-leading training, delivered at our own, multi-award-winning training centre, they provide exemplary, compassionate care tailored to individual needs, offering total peace of mind for clients and their families.
Expert care and support, dedicated to you
Our Care Consultants oversee our nursing and managed care services supporting only a small number of families. This means our service is truly personal, with unrivalled support and continuity of care. Reassurance that we are there when you need us most.
Family-founded, family-owned
We continue to be a family-owned and family-managed business. The largest wholly family-owned live-in care provider in the UK, we focus on what our clients and their families need from a high-quality care service, not on meeting investors’ expectations.
Cost of overnight care
The cost of overnight care is often comparable to – and in some cases lower than – the fees charged by residential care homes. With overnight care, you receive the unique benefits of one-to-one personalised support, something that simply cannot be matched in a care home environment.
For couples, live-in overnight care can be especially cost effective. While two rooms would be required in a residential care home, a live-in arrangement allows both partners to share a single carer for a smaller additional charge.
