Live-in Care Cost Calculator: Estimate Your Care Costs

Live-in Care Cost Calculator: Estimate Your Care Costs

We understand that arranging full-time care for a loved one can feel upsetting and stressful, especially if your family member is reluctant to accept care. In addition to managing the emotional toll, you might feel worried about the financial aspect of organising support for a parent, partner, or another relative.

To help you make an informed decision, we provide a live-in care cost calculator to help your family estimate the cost of live-in care based on your family member’s needs, preferences, and circumstances.

Continue reading to learn more about our care cost calculator, including how it works, the information you’ll need, and the various funding options available.

How Does a Care Cost Calculator Work?

A care cost calculator provides an estimate of your loved one’s potential care costs, helping your family make an informed decision.

For instance, the care costs calculator will compare various factors to estimate your family member’s specific care fees, including their care needs, location, and the required level of support.

What Affects the Cost of Live-in Care?

Having helped thousands of families since 1962, we understand the importance of moving quickly when arranging live-in care for a family member.

Our care costs calculator provides a quick, hassle-free estimate to help you decide if live-in care is the right option for your loved one and family.

As mentioned, many factors can influence the cost of live-in care, including the care complexity, whether you require introductory or managed care, your loved one’s specialist needs, the duration of care, or if you need respite care.

What Information Will You Need to Calculate Care Costs?

Before using a care cost calculator, we recommend gathering various information to receive an accurate estimate for our live-in care service.

Calculate care costs by providing accurate details about your loved one’s:

  • Care needs

  • Medical conditions

  • Mobility

  • Personal care requirements

  • Household tasks

  • Preferred start date

Live-in Care Costs vs Residential Care Costs

Many people assume that live-in care costs considerably more than a residential care home. However, it is often comparable to a quality care home, especially for elderly couples.

While our care costs calculator provides an estimate for our services, it doesn’t show you the many benefits of around-the-clock live-in care.

For instance, the fee includes quality one-to-one support from a highly trained live-in carer, which differs from support provided by a care home with a rotating team of carers.

Live-in care also allows your loved one to remain at home in their familiar surroundings, ensuring they never have to say goodbye to their pets, belongings, and memories.

This prevents physical and emotional disruption while allowing your loved one to maintain their daily routine and remain close to everything that matters.

Can You Get Help with Care Costs?

You may feel relieved to know that your family could access one of several options for funding live-in care, helping remove some of the financial pressure on your shoulders.

For instance, your loved one could qualify for local authority support. If your family member’s savings and investments, which exclude their home, are currently below the national threshold, their council may provide full or partial funding.

For example, if your loved one’s savings and capital are under £14,250 in England, they may qualify for full financial support. If your parent has between £14,250 and £23,250, the council may provide partial support. However, people with over £23,250 will not qualify. If relevant, ask your local council for a financial assessment, and you can choose direct payments instead of using their contracted care provider.

If your family member doesn’t qualify for local authority support, don’t despair, as they could be eligible for non-means-tested NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) funding. The NHS typically covers all care costs if a person has complex, unpredictable, or intense medical needs.

If your loved one doesn’t qualify for both local authority support and NHS CHC, your family has the option to self-fund live-in care costs.

Several funding options can also help cover respite care costs, providing a family carer with a well-deserved break. Find out who pays for respite care.

Our live-in care cost calculator makes it easier to make an informed decision, as it can provide an early estimate to help you calculate care costs and devise an appropriate care plan for the person you love.

Planning ahead helps you feel fully prepared for the process, removing stress while ensuring your loved one feels happy and comfortable with the decision.

What’s more, an early estimate gives you time to identify the most affordable level of care, as you can compare our live-in care service against other care options, such as residential care or visiting care.
