The Circle of Care

The Circle of Care visualised

We teamed up with acclaimed British photographer, Anita Corbin, to capture something truly special - the real, everyday connections that help people continue living with joy, dignity and independence at home.

Anita spent time with two remarkable Consultus clients in the comfort of their own homes - LR, a woman in her mid-70s living with dementia, and FES, a 98-year-old who continues to live independently at home with support from her carers.

Each portrait shines a light on the unique ‘circle of care’ surrounding them. Sometimes that circle includes family, other times it’s made up of trusted carers who bring companionship, reassurance and practical support.

Often, it’s a blend of both which is proof that independence doesn’t mean navigating later life alone.

The pictures are paired with a treasured family photograph from years gone by, gently drawing a line between past and present. The images show how memories endure, even as life changes, and how the people around us form a circle of support that grows and adapts over time.

To accompany the photos we’ve also launched our new HOME guide, created to help families open up conversations about care early, with confidence and compassion.

Together, the portraits and the guide reflect what matters most to all of us at Consultus - helping people live well in the place they call home.

About the photographer

Image

Acclaimed portrait photographer Anita Corbin has built her career revealing the sides of women the world rarely sees. From the trailblazing figures of her landmark First Women UK series to the candid honesty of Visible Girls: Revisited, her work consistently challenges assumptions about female visibility and who gets to be seen.

For our Circle of Care campaign, Anita turns her lens to one of society’s last taboos: women in later life. Her sensitive, intimate portraits celebrate the quiet, everyday relationships that make ageing at home possible, highlighting the women whose images too often slip from public view once youth fades. Through her collaboration with us, Anita captures not decline, but love, laughter, dignity, and the evolving shape of life with care.

“I’ve always been drawn to the stories we don’t tell about women,” says Corbin. “There’s incredible beauty and depth in later life. These portraits are about visibility - showing that life doesn’t stop when you need care; it simply changes shape.”
