Our care training courses include an induction course for new carers, annual update training and a wide range of virtual and e-learning courses. We are also a Pearson accredited centre approved to offer the nationally recognised Level 2 Diploma in Care and the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.

Consultus Training Courses


Here at Consultus, we provide a wide range of care training courses designed to enhance your knowledge and confidence, opening up more work opportunities for you as your experience grows. Our ultimate goal is to create a world where experienced carers are visible at all times, recognized for the truly wonderful work they do and in turn become empowered professionals. We are currently offering a combination of e-learning, online and face-to-face training. Our half day courses are delivered virtually using Microsoft Teams, so there are no travel costs or time spent travelling, you just log on from wherever you are.

Consultus Induction Course


This comprehensive course is a blend of online and face to face training and provides new carers with the skills and understanding required to be effective and prepared for your role as a Consultus carer.

This comprehensive course is a blend of online and face to face training and provides new carers with the skills and understanding required to be effective and prepared for your role as a Consultus carer. 

Part 1: you will complete two online topics


Part 2: you will attend four days of face to face training at our Training Centre in Tonbridge, Kent


The format of the four-day induction training will be:


Day 1: Sessions on your caring role, medication, communication and recording and reporting, infection control and health and safety.


Day 2: Sessions on basic life support, duty of care, safeguarding adults, equality, diversity and inclusion, dementia, mental health and learning disabilities and the Mental Capacity Act.


Day 3: Moving and positioning, including demonstration and practice of safer moving and handling techniques, and safe use of a range of moving and positioning equipment, including a mobile and ceiling hoist.


Day 4: Sessions on food hygiene, the importance of nutrition and hydration, pressure area care and a person-centred approach to care. The afternoon session focuses on all aspects of personal care, including toileting, how to support clients with incontinence, catheters and colostomy or ileostomy.

Carer Update Course


Our update course is in three parts and is a mixture of online and face to face training. This course is mapped to the Skills for Care Core and mandatory training guidance covering a range of topics including moving and positioning, basic life support, safeguarding adults, infection control and medication.

It is Consultus policy that your training is updated every year and our comprehensive Carer Update Course has been designed to help you update your knowledge and skills. This course is mapped to the Skills for Care Core and mandatory training guidance covering a range of topics including moving and positioning, basic life support, safeguarding adults, infection control and medication.


The course is a blend of online and face to face training which is divided into three parts:


Part One (e-learning course): Medication Practice

Part Two (online training):

  • Topic One: Moving & positioning (theory), fire safety, health & safety, infection control and recording & reporting
  • Topic Two: Basic life support (theory)
  • Topic Three: Food hygiene, dignity, person-centred care, pressure area care and personal care
  • Topic Four: Medication, safeguarding adults, equality, diversity & inclusion and duty of care

Part Three (practical training): on completion of parts one and two, you will attend a practical session at our training centre in Tonbridge where you will practice moving and positioning and basic life support techniques. To pass the course it is essential that carers can successfully demonstrate safe use of the moving and positioning equipment and perform the basic life support and moving and positioning techniques safely and correctly. CPR must be performed while kneeling


The sessions run from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm every Monday, Tuesday and Friday with a maximum of eight carers per session. Dates can be found on the training calendar.


Please note that it is necessary to complete Parts One and Two of the course prior to attending your practical training.


We do understand that work commitments can make it difficult for you to travel to Tonbridge, but we ask that the practical session is completed within two months from starting Part One.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

There are over 50 online carer training courses, listed below, available for purchase through our Training Centre.


You can access your purchased course/s whenever you like, from any internet-enabled device (PC, laptop or tablet), allowing for a more flexible learning experience. And because there’s no set course completion date, you can work at your own pace; simply save and return to your work until it is successfully completed.


In addition to being flexible, the online courses are also extremely affordable. Courses cost £10 (except for the Care Certificate course which covers all 15 Care Certificate standards and costs £20) and can be purchased through the Training team.

This live, virtual 3-hour informative course is delivered by our experienced Award-Winning Training Centre and offers carers a better understanding of the specific needs of clients with dementia.

The course content includes: 
  • Facts about dementia, common types of dementia and how to recognise the symptoms of dementia
  • Key functions of the brain, dementia risk factors, diagnosis and treatment
  • A person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia: tailoring care to meet the unique and specific needs of the person with dementia
  • The factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia: using a range of positive communication techniques

On successful completion of this course, carers will receive a Consultus Certificate of attendance.

Online Course - Parkinson's Explained


Parkinson’s Explained is a three hour workshop, endorsed by the Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist Association (PDNSA) and designed to give carers an improved understanding of Parkinson’s disease. This live, interactive course is delivered via Microsoft Teams.

Parkinson’s Explained is a three hour workshop, endorsed by the Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist Association (PDNSA) and designed to give carers an improved understanding of Parkinson’s disease. This live, interactive course is delivered via Microsoft Teams.

It highlights key challenges for people with Parkinson’s disease such as mobility, communication and swallowing, and has a main focus throughout on the importance of drug management. The course is interspersed with interesting clips of people who are living with Parkinson’s disease and those providing care. Carers attending the course receive a link to the comprehensive online Parkinson’s UK workbook.


By the end of the course carers should be able to:

  • Understand what Parkinson’s Disease is
  • Understand the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s
  • Discuss the various treatments available be aware of the impact Parkinson’s has on daily living activities such as:
    • communication
    • mobility
    • eating and drinking
    • continence
  • consider some of the resources available – including the role of Parkinson’s UK – to improve the quality of life for those with Parkinson’s

Consultus Care Training Centre is delighted to be working in partnership with Parkinson’s UK to deliver Parkinson’s Explained courses. Parkinson’s UK is the lead support and research charity in the UK working with people with Parkinson’s.

This live, virtual half-day course increases your knowledge and understanding of the causes, diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of someone who has had a stroke.

This course is endorsed by the UK Stroke Forum (Stroke-Specific Education Framework) and the course content includes:

  • Types of stroke, risk factors and the signs and symptoms of a stroke
  • Stroke as a medical emergency and how to act FAST
  • The brain and neuroplasticity 
  • Understand how to support a client who has had a stroke and may have problems with:
    • Communication
    • Weakness and paralysis

LEVEL 2 AND LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN CARE QUALIFICATIONS


Our Pearson accredited Consultus Care Training Centre is approved by Pearson to train carers for the nationally recognised Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in care qualifications.


The costs of our diploma courses are heavily subsidised, we offer flexible payment options and funding may be available for carers in managed care bookings.


Course Content


At Consultus, we offer a rolling programme which gives you more flexibility with your training. You can start the qualification when you are ready, subject to assessor availability.


These qualifications usually take between six to twelve months to complete. You will need to complete nine mandatory units for the Level 2 qualification and 13 mandatory units for the Level 3 qualification plus additional optional units.

These units will cover the necessary skills to perform the role of a health and social care worker to a high standard.


Theory work will be completed using our online e-portfolio system. This means a computer or tablet will be required for the duration of your training course. Full training on these distance learning resources will be provided during your remote diploma induction session.


Your allocated assessor will support individuals during their studies, such as those who may not have studied since leaving school, for whom English isn’t a first language or those who lack confidence.


Successful completion of this training course will be assessed through evidence of your practical competency, gathered by our experienced assessors. Your assessor will observe you caring for your clients in their own homes on at least two occasions. The client must be located within a commutable distance from Consultus Head Office (Tonbridge).


Level 2


Level 2 is the entry level for carers who have not studied this subject before or who are new to the role. This qualification aims to consolidate knowledge and encourage individuals to excel in their role through learning and development.


Level 3


The Level 3 is the equivalent of an AS-level qualification and is best suited for those who already work in the Social Care Sector and have experience working without supervision. This programme sets the standard for those working in Health and Social Care and will provide you with the fundamental skills necessary to provide the highest standard of care.


Learners enrolling onto the Level 3 qualification must have evidence of relevant adult learning or have previously completed the Level 2 Diploma. They must be an experienced carer who works in a supervisory or lead role and has clients with a moderate to high level of dependency.
