What is Live-In Care?

Live-in care is care provided by highly trained live-in carers who stay with the person receiving care in their own home. The carer is on-hand to provide the professional, bespoke care required 24/7.

Live-in care is generally the preferred alternative to moving into a care or nursing home, with the reassurance, comfort and familiarity of remaining in your own home. Not only is live-in care much less disruptive than unpredictable community care or hospital stays, but it can also be considerably more cost-effective.

Consultus provides two live-in care service options, depending on your needs and how you would like to manage your live-in care.

What is Live-In Nursing?

Our Nurse Coordinators take the time to carefully match our live-in nurses with our clients to ensure a good relationship with the client is fostered from an early stage.

With the continuous monitoring that comes with one-on-one nursing, it is always reassuring for the entire family to know that a skilled and professional live-in nurse is there when needed. If you or a relative have any serious health concerns or have had a terminal diagnosis, a live-in nurse may be the best solution for everyone involved.

Our Nurse Coordinators, who are office-based, are all Registered Nurses with extensive experience. They are always on hand, day and night, to provide expert help and advice and along with our live-in nurses, will work closely with families, GPs, District Nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide a coordinated, holistic package of care for clients. They oversee all live-in nursing placements to ensure our clients are receiving the best care possible.

Live-in carers can also provide assistance in other areas such as housework, cooking and pet care.

Live-in Care or Nursing versus a Care Home

Going into a care home can mean an upheaval of life as you’ve known it. With live-in care, your life doesn’t need to change. Sharing your home with a life-in carer means you can be properly cared for, in the place you feel most comfortable.

Receiving live-in care at home enables you or your loved one to remain with your spouse and pets, continuing to spend your day as you wish – there are no set visiting hours, set menu or restricted activities. You can continue to make your own choices whilst enjoying the company of a live-in carer who has been hand-picked for you. You can build meaningful relationships with your small rota of carers, rather than being cared for by a larger number of sometimes unfamiliar care home staff.

For over 60 years, we have been identifying common interests between carers and clients. Wherever possible, we ensure that the person who stays in your home will share your enjoyment in a love of film, music, books, foreign language, or any other interest you may have! We pride ourselves on making good matches which benefit all involved.

Here is an interesting radio clip regarding care homes and live-in care which was recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic:

Funding Live-in Care

We understand that any kind of private care service is expensive. We cannot provide financial advice but we can pass on some guidance as to how many of our clients fund their care.
