A personal statement from Consultus Care & Nursing CEO, Peter Seldon

Consultus has been a family-led, 24/7 live-in care company since its inception in 1962. I have been fully immersed in the business since I took over from my Aunt in 1998, and I fully understand that our clients’ needs must be at the forefront of everything we do.

I have first-hand experience of the work our carers and nurses carry out on a daily basis. After my father passed away in 2005, Consultus cared for my mother for nine years. My parents had been utterly devoted to each other for 57 years and that care, companionship and support was transformative for my mother. It made her feel life was still worth living in those last years.

It is my mission to ensure that all of our clients have the same positive experience with Consultus Care & Nursing.

Live-in care: introductory and fully-managed

Whether you choose our introductory or fully-managed care service, our carers’ core duty is the same: to support and enable each of our clients to live as independently as possible in their own home.

Our successful introductory care service (Care at Home) has been the right solution for many since Consultus first began offering a cost-effective service for clients whose families, or friends of the family are able to oversee the care delivered. We match our clients with a rota of suitably qualified, trained and vigorously screened self-employed carers to ensure continuity of care. The principal benefit of this service is its cost effectiveness when compared with a fully manged service, and the retained overall control from the client/local family or friend of the family.

In response to the increasing needs of our clients, and the reality that many people in need of care do not have family or friends living nearby, we now also offer a fully-managed care service (Care at Home Plus). A dedicated Care Consultant will coordinate and oversee every aspect of your, or your loved one’s, care, including creating and maintaining a care plan, risk assessments, reviews, diary management and liaising with external healthcare professionals on your behalf. We closely monitor the care delivery and make regular visits to clients’ homes to ensure the highest standard of care is being provided. Care at Home Plus carers are employed directly by Consultus and, as with all our carers, have undertaken and passed our in-house training program which is amongst the highest rated in the UK by independent certifying and qualification bodies. Our Care at Home Plus service is regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Live-in nursing

For clients with more complex health care needs, we also offer a private live-in nursing service. Our qualified and experienced Registered Nurses can provide support in a variety of areas including palliative, end of life, post-surgical/rehabilitation, cancer, coronary, dementia, degenerative (Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease) and respite. Our nursing service is regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Training Centre

Rare for any care agency, our Training Centre is endorsed by the UK statutory body, Skills for Care as a ‘Centre of Excellence’. Our award-winning Consultus Care Training Centre can now offer courses for the general public as well as for our community of carers. Subject areas include Parkinson’s, dementia, stroke, diabetes, end of life training, and first aid.
