Meet our Ask a Carer Advocates

We are very lucky to have some amazing carers who act as ‘Ask a Carer Advocates’, answering questions and providing advice and honest experiences on our Ask a Carer platform. If you have a question about being a live-in carer, who better to ask than the people who know best!

We spoke to a couple of our Ask a Carer Advocates to find out what they think:

Karen, Consultus Introduced carer for 4 years

What made you want to become an Ask a Carer advocate?

I feel that carers need to be able to freely ask other carers for advice, knowing that most of us have experienced mutual issues and challenges.

How would you explain / describe Ask a Carer to someone who doesn’t know what it is?

Ask a Carer is a platform where carers can ask for advice from seasoned carers, who have had good and bad experiences.

What do you enjoy about being an Ask a Carer advocate?

The opportunity to share my experiences and knowledge with other carers who need to know that they are not alone out there.

Would you recommend Ask a Carer to someone who is considering applying to be a live-in carer?

I would most definitely recommend Ask a Carer to anyone who needs advice and help from carers who have experienced challenging times, as well as share the positive sides of being a live-in carer.

Nicky, Consultus Introduced & Managed carer for 8 years

What made you want to become an Ask a Carer advocate?

Leaving all you know to start a journey of being a carer is very daunting and a little scary. It’s so important to help other carers know that they are not alone on their journey – we have all  walked the same road. Its about giving back to an agency that has been supportive, helpful and go the extra mile.

I feel very privileged and honoured to help the vulnerable have their wish to be able to stay in their homes content, safe and comfortable.

How would you explain / describe Ask a Carer to someone who doesn’t know what it is?

It can be very hard to speak out with something you are struggling with in the careing world ,there are people who can act as a spoke person its about giving support .

What do you enjoy about being an Ask a Carer advocate?

It’s about giving back to the community and being as supportive as you can. It’s understanding what the other carer is going through, meeting other carers and learning from them too.

Would you recommend Ask a Carer to someone who is considering applying to be a live-in carer?

YES, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking at live-in care. I have recommended a few people already.
