Care at Home Plus: “The support is fantastic”

In addition to acting as an introductory agency for self-employed carers, Consultus also directly employs carers through our fully managed and CQC regulated service, Care at Home Plus (CHP). CHP carers enjoy similar benefits to self-employed carers, such as a great work/life balance, but also reap the advantages of a more personalised approach and additional support from Consultus.

Rose Clark started working through Consultus as a self-employed carer in June 2017. Well-liked by her clients, she quickly gained a wealth of caring experience before the lure of extra support saw her move over to our CHP model in May 2018.

“I'd heard through the grapevine that [if you work for CHP], Consultus does your tax and National Insurance for you, and you also receive pension and holiday pay,” Rose said.

CHP Manager, Carol Poole, explained that CHP carers also benefit from having a dedicated care consultant closely overseeing their bookings, helping to ensure a smooth transition each step of the way.

“We conduct a thorough assessment of the client and their home to determine their needs, the carer’s role and anything else of note. We also provide ongoing support throughout the booking including regular phone calls and visits to the client’s home to check in,” Carol said.

“The care consultants also work with the client and their family to develop a tailored care plan, for their carers to work off.”

In keeping with CHP’s more personalised and supportive approach, Rose explained that the care consultant will personally introduce the carer to their new client, “they’ll collect you, take you to your booking and introduce you. It really helps everyone to feel more at ease.”

Once the booking is underway, Consultus maintains regular contact with the client and their carer to ensure the booking is a success.

“The care consultant will phone you to check how things are going and see if you need anything. It is also reassuring to know that there is someone on call 24-hours a day, just in case. The support is fantastic,” Rose said.

Another perk for Rose is that she no longer has to discuss the delicate subject of payment with her clients.

“You never need to discuss money with the client or invoice them. You just do your timesheet and Consultus pays you. Even better, they pay you weekly!” Rose said.

The service is currently available in the South of England, where Consultus’ head office is located.

“It's so comforting to know that, should you ever need it, support is close by. When I was working as a self-employed carer, I had a booking in Newcastle, which is a long way from Consultus’ office in Kent. It's really nice to know that they are local. That's a really good thing,” Rose said.
