Our Courses
The range of training modules available will open up even more work opportunities for all Consultus Carers. On completion of a course, the delegate will receive a detailed pack of guidance notes, together with their certificate of achievement.
Induction & Manual Handling
This certificated course is an essential tool for all Carers (whether new or experienced) and highly regarded by our Clients. The induction session introduces you to your role as a self employed Carer. The manual handling theory session provides an overview of relevant legislation and offers techniques for keeping yourself and your Clients safe and injury free. During the afternoon practical session you will practice safer manual handling skills such as assisted standing, chair transfers, bed moves, hoisting and assisting a fallen Client.
Personal Care for the Elderly
This one day course is a must for Carers with little or no experience of providing personal care. The course covers washing, dressing, personal grooming, supporting a Client to eat and drink, toileting and basic incontinence. This programme can form part of a two day course, in conjunction with our Induction & Manual Handling training.
Emergency First Aid
The course will introduce you to the principles of first aid and provide you with the knowledge required to help deal with an emergency situation. Carers should attend a first aid course every three years.
Working with Dementia
Our dementia training will provide you with a wider understanding of the condition and introduce you to practical ways of communicating with dementia Clients and engaging them in activities. Clients are increasingly requesting Carers who have attended dementia training.
Stroke Awareness
This course will increase your knowledge and understanding of the causes, diagnosis, treatment and after care of a person who has suffered a stroke.
Parkinson’s Disease
A three hour course which will increase your knowledge and understanding of Parkinson’s Disease.
Manual Handling Refresher Training
Consultus Carers should attend a refresher course every two years. The course provides an update on manual handling theory and the opportunity to revise and practice safer manual handling techniques.
Training is important for all Carers, whether you are experienced or new to caring. It increases your confidence, knowledge and skills and inspires greater Client confidence. The training courses complement our Distance Learning Training and the prices of our courses are heavily subsidised.
