‘Live-in’ Nursing

If you need regular assistance from a skilled nursing professional but you want desperately to be at home, Consultus can help you.

Consultus’ Live-In Nurses are qualified nurses who live and work with clients in their own homes. They work closely with you and your family, your GP, district nurse and other health and social care staff to provide competitively priced, round-the-clock nursing care, companionship and reassurance.

Our Nurses have expertise in areas such as the care of older people, the management of debilitating illnesses and post-operative nursing. Consultus nurses may be needed...

for a short period, following surgery or illness
for respite or help during holidays or visits home
to help facilitate an earlier release from hospital or convalescent home
as a very attractive alternative to long-term nursing home residency.
when simple personal care is not enough
to oversee the work of untrained carers or personal assistants on a permanent or occasional basis
to professionally assess someone’s nursing or care needs

Registered Nurses are usually best placed to manage catheterisation, hoisting equipment and advanced chronic and terminal illnesses. They provide practical nursing care and advice for both patients and family carers on a range of health disciplines, for example:

administration of medication
wound and pressure area care
health promotion
nutrition
continence
formal care plans and risk assessments

Live-in Nurses can also attend to their clients’ personal care needs such as washing and help with dressing as well as light housekeeping duties, home cooking and shopping.

If you are unsure whether you need a nurse, a care assistant or both please click here. Alternatively you can speak to our Nursing Manager or seek guidance from another health professional.

Each Consultus nurse lives in her client’s home for an agreed period of time – usually two weeks. Where care is to continue she hands over to a colleague before going home for a well-earned rest. Consistency as well as quality of care is paramount for long term clients and with your involvement a small rota of dedicated nurses is quickly established.

If you are leaving hospital or other care institution, our nurse will meet you at the establishment before discharge and receive a full professional ‘handover’ from the healthcare staff who have been looking after you. They will then accompany you home, making sure you our comfortable and well throughout and following this important transitional period.

Our nurses are experienced, fully qualified and registered with the UK’s Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). Their certificates and references are available for you to view.

Each nurse is hand-picked for reliability, professionalism, discretion and commitment to the emotional and physical well being of clients. Only one in ten applicants makes it through our rigorous nurse selection procedure. Nurses are carefully matched to clients based upon experience, skills and personality.

We can sometimes arrange nursing at very short notice but to avoid disappointment we strongly recommend that you book early (service start times can later be tweaked where, for example, an exact hospital discharge date is not known but please bear in mind that a fee may apply for complete cancellations or longer postponements received with little notice).
