Become a Consultus Nurse
Every week Consultus has hundreds of
live-in healthcare professionals on assignment in the
UK, earning good money and enjoying rewarding, stimulating
work. One-to-one home nursing gives you the chance to really make
a difference to the quality of a person’s life.
You work only when you want to and you'll travel the
country meeting interesting new people.

Our clients are mostly older, frail ladies and gentlemen who need varying degrees of help with their personal care, such as dressing, washing and bathing, and with tasks such as housekeeping, cooking and shopping.
The majority of our clients are older people with dementia, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Disease or other adults with chronic conditions like motor neurone disease, respiratory problems or other complex needs. Some are undergoing post-operative rehabilitation or require palliative care.
We sometimes need mental health nurses for older clients or nurses qualified for work with incapacitated teenagers (see current vacancies).
As a live-in nurse you will be residing in your client’s home, typically for two-weeks at a time. At the end of your assignment you can take as much time off as you like before returning or moving on to a new client.
We welcome nurses
from overseas who have excellent English and
who have secured the right to work in the UK. Of
course, to work as a nurse you must be registered
with the UK Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). We usually like you to have at least six months prior experience working in a UK healthcare setting.
Most Consultus nurses have RN1 (RNA) registration. Nurses registered as RN3 (RNMH) and RN8 (RNC) may have regular work on the rota of a smaller number of clients.
We invite other nurses, including internationally-qualified nurses without NMC registration and recently retired nurses, to apply as as live-in Health Care Assistants (see below).
We are looking for people who can commit to working at least 12 weeks (six 2-week assignments) in their first year with us.
Our nurses are of many ages and come from a wide range
of backgrounds but they all have a few things in common:
• Dedication
• Reliability
• Compassion
• Common sense
• A commitment to provide the highest standards
of care
• Willingness to travel
• Fitness and energy
• Adaptability, and
• Three or more years post-registration experience
Your work can fit around your own
lifestyle and personal choices. A typical work pattern
is 2 or 3 weeks on assignment, followed by a
few days or a week or more off. Your time is then your
own – you
can return home or travel and visit friends.
While on assignment you will probably work eight to
ten hours a day and (subject to any breaks agreed
between you and the client) always be on hand to give
nursing assistance. As well as nursing and personal
care tasks, you will offer companionship and help
around the home. You will also create nursing plans
based on the Roper system and conduct risk assessments.
The job offers great flexibility and benefits but few
find the work effortless. Our nursing managers will
be pleased to answer any questions you may have.
Benefits
Registered nurse pay is currently £769.00 per seven-day booking rising to £1,104 or more for night shifts. Overtime can increase your pay quite considerably. Other benefits include:-
• Room and full board included while on assignment
• Cost of travel to and from assignments refunded
• Fantastic support from a very experienced team
• The chance to travel the UK
Live-in Health Care Assistants (HCAs)
We have a small number of vacancies for experienced, qualified Live-in HCAs. These are not the positions described elsewhere on this website as self-employed Live-in Carers/Companion roles. Live-in HCAs are engaged to us on contract for services and we will pay you direct; if you are interested in contracted jobs please click here.
Interviews
Your interview may be held in Kent (40 minutes from London), the Midlands or Devon. Your travel costs can be reimbursed after you start work (please ask for terms and conditions).
We need to talk to you before we offer you an interview
so please telephone the Nursing Department on (01732)
355231 during normal office hours, though you might
first like to take
our test to see whether you meet all our criteria for the post of Live-in Registered Nurse.
Alternatively you can email us using
our special enquiry
form.
