Application Process for Overseas Nurses
Consultus welcomes Nurses from overseas if they fulfil all our requirements.
All overseas Nurses* who receive a Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) assessment letter must enrol onto a course known as the Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP) which will help them prepare for work in British healthcare settings.
The programme has two parts: twenty days ‘protected learning time’, then, if deemed necessary, a period of supervised practice in a clinical setting. You will have to meet the standards and competencies of the ONP in order to register as a nurse in the UK.
To secure an ONP placement, you will need to have the following:
- A letter from the NMC inviting you to take part in the ONP; this should not stipulate that you need a period of 'Supervised Practice'
- An IELTS (English language) exam pass rate of 7.0 or higher
- A right to work in the UK e.g. Youth Migrant Visa or an Ancestry Visa (unfortunately work permits are not permissable for agency work)
* Except nurses from EU and EEA States and Switzerland - there are no other exceptions.
