Application Process for Overseas Nurses

Consultus welcomes Nurses from overseas if they fulfil all our requirements.

All overseas Nurses* who receive a Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) assessment letter must enrol onto a course known as the Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP) which will help them prepare for work in British healthcare settings.

The programme has two parts: twenty days ‘protected learning time’, then, if deemed necessary, a period of supervised practice in a clinical setting. You will have to meet the standards and competencies of the ONP in order to register as a nurse in the UK.

Consultus can help you complete the ONP within one month at a popular South of England University; you will need to attend the campus on three occasions and have access to the internet at other times to conduct your own research and complete the relevant assignments (a laptop is recommended). We may be able to offer you work as a Live in Carer when you are not studying. 'Live in' means living in the home of a Client during the period of your assignment (usually one or two weeks).

Once you have successfully completed the programme and been successful at interview, we can then offer you work as a Live in Nurse.

To secure an ONP placement, you will need to have the following:

  • a letter from the NMC inviting you to take part in the ONP; this should not stipulate that you need a period of 'Supervised Practice'
  • an IELTS (English language) exam pass rate of 7.0 or higher
  • a right to work in the UK e.g. Youth Migrant Visa or an Ancestry Visa (unfortunately work permits are not permissable for agency work)

If you meet these requirements please Contact us and speak to a Nurse Consultant or email us with any questions you may have.

* Except nurses from EU and EEA States and Switzerland - there are no other exceptions.
