Dementia and Alzheimer's Nursing
Consultus Nurses can help Clients who have Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease to remain in the familiarity of their own homes
For Clients who have Dementia or Alzheimers Disease it is important that routine and familiarity are maintained and that change is kept to a minimum. Consultus Nurses are able to achieve this desired balance within the home environment. They will also encourage choice and independence wherever this is appropriate. If required, Consultus has Specialist Nurses who have an additional qualification in Mental Health Nursing.
The Nurse will be able to assist with the following:
- All aspects of personal care, including help with toileting needs including catheter and stoma care
- Any other Nursing needs such as wound dressings
- Administration of medication
- Provision of nutritious meals and the encouragement to eat and drink
- Help with mobility
- Liaising with other health care professionals
- Promoting as much independence and choice as possible
- Reassurance
- Companionship and participating in any hobbies/interests
- Outings
- Support to family members
Each Client will have an individual Care Plan and Risk Assessment. This will be updated as necessary.
Placements will usually be on a longer term basis, with a rota of 2 to 3 Nurses providing continuity of care, with as little disruption to the Client as possible.
