Convalescent Care

Our convalescent care at home service offers the best possible solution to recuperation after a period of illness or following an operation.

Convalescing after an operation usually means a period where support is provided whilst the patient gets stronger and independence is encouraged until they are ready to resume their normal life.

Care from Consultus can be tailored to meet the needs of each individual Client; the level of care required may well change during the recovery period:

  • Low dependency - where Clients are largely self-caring, but need the extra support and reassurance that a live-in Carer can provide.  This might take the form of housework, shopping, preparing meals and companionship.
  • Medium dependency – might typically include assistance with personal care such as bathing, dressing, toileting and mobility, in addition to help around the home.
  • High dependency – can encompass all the above, but in addition Clients may need assistance with more complex healthcare, such as catheters/stoma care or even PEG feeding
  • Nursing care – requiring the administration of medication, injections and syringe drivers; wound and pressure care; ventilation and tracheostomy; formal nursing care plans and risk assessments  In such cases, a Consultus Nurse can be arranged for a short period of time, until the patient is well enough to manage with the support of a Carer.

Following a time in hospital, most people wish to get back to their home as soon as is possible.  Having a Consultus Carer or Nurse on hand to offer help and support can facilitate an early discharge and, once home, provide the level of service needed to ensure a quick recovery.
